Taj Ice Cream – Oldest (since 1887) in Mumbai
Jai Shri Krishna Dairy Farm – Oldest Lassi Shop in Mumbai
Jai Shri Krishna Dairy Farm is probably Mumbai’s oldest (80/90 years) and most famous/well-known specialty lassi shop, started by Balli Rai, the current owner’s grandfather.
Address: Ranade Road (opposite Nakshatra Shopping Center), Dadar West, Mumbai.
Timings: 10 AM – 10 PM (Open 7 days)
Just a 2-minute walk from Dadar Local Railway Station.
Jai Shri Krishna Dairy Farm is a small shop in the middle of a crowded street that seems to be squeezed between two shops, always crowded with customers. One has to stand in a queue on a busy day. Waiting in the queue is worth it.
It has several thin wooden benches opposite each other, within a thin long alley-like structure, which can seat about 25 customers at a time. Customers sit in long queues waiting for their glass of lassi to arrive.
There is no doubt that the lassi is good and authentic. You will crave more. They serve full glasses of hand-churned creamy, thick, sweet lassi with a layer of malai on top, and they charge Rs 40/- for the full glass. Worth every penny. They have discontinued half glasses.
Anyway, it has a reasonable price and good taste.
I visited the shop twice on foot (advised) as the road was very crowded and parking was a problem.
I loved the lassi. Awesome and refreshing. Worth the hype, I must say. Their lassi is very tempting and excellent with creamy, thick slices of malai. Perfectly balanced in sweetness. Every sip was a delightful flavor that left me wanting more.
Never miss this whenever you are around Dadar Local Railway Station.
Not only was the lassi delicious, but the service was also exceptional i.e., super fast. The quantity of lassi is enough for one person. You must visit this place with your friends and family. Do visit once.
From experience, I can say that what makes lassi great is the sweet fermented yogurt, which should be fresh and slightly sweet. Instead of drinking different juices, drink lassi as it will make your stomach healthy.
I love lassi.
This shop has been open since 80/90 years and still sells glasses of lassi that tastes like hotcakes. What a great experience it was. The lassi made my day. You can also get a parcel too. Tempting. Do try this place. Popular lassi stop in the city. This is a must-have refreshment after shopping.
It is a hidden gem next to Dadar (West) Local Railway Station.
The best part is no gimmicks. Just the essence of a good lassi to quench the thirst.
They make the lassi in front of you. You have to wait for the person to come with a tray full of lassi, and you get your lassi. They make 25-30 glasses of lassi in one set. Very tasty and a must-try during summer.
You will find this kind of lassi only in northern states.
There are other lassi shops in Dadar too, and another famous one is Kailash Mandir in Dadar East. A 5-minute walk from Dadar Local Railway Station.
Review: IRCTC AC Executive Lounge, New Delhi Railway Station
IRCTC Executive Lounge, New Delhi Railway Station – The very first experience.
I reached New Delhi Railway Station from Chandigarh via JAN SHATABDI EXP (12058) at 11:45 am.
My next train was CSMT RAJDHANI (22222) at 4:55 pm from H NIZAMUDDIN Railway Station.
I thought of resting for 2 hours in the retiring room (the first time) at New Delhi Railway Station.
The retiring room at New Delhi Railway Station (Paharganj side) is above Platform No. 1.
I enquired about the dormitory availability, but was suggested by the present railway employee that it can be booked only via online.
I requested my sister to check online whether the dormitory is available or not.
I was told – it is not available.
What to do next?
As I was about to approach the stairs, I saw a board mentioning the IRCTC Executive Lounge on the same 1st floor of the retiring room.
I walked in (the first time). I approached the person present at the reception and enquired about the 2-hour rates, which were as follows:
- Lounge Entry Charge – 1 Hour – Rs. 190 per person.
- Extra Hours – 1 Hour – Rs. 130 per person.
Done.
I was requested to submit an Aadhaar Card as identity proof.
Submitted.
The service was lightning-fast. The staff was courteous and polite. Within minutes, I was given the bill, which was Rs. 320 (including CGST 6% and SGST 6%), and a pamphlet mentioning IRCTC Executive Lounge services and rates as follows:
- Deluxe Resting Suite – 2 Hours – Rs. 670 per person.
- Extra Hours – 1 Hour – Rs. 280 per person.
There were 4 different Lounge Packages available too for per person starting price from Rs. 420 till Rs. 1100.
I found the IRCTC Executive Lounge safe (CCTVs are installed), less crowded and the seating was very comfortable – the best for resting and relaxing. Cleanliness all around was excellent. Much better than the waiting room at the platform.
Recliners, Buffet & Ala Carte (charges extra), Shower Room (Rs. 280 per person), TV, Wifi, Newspaper, and Mobile Charging Point were there.
I visited the toilet and found it sparkling clean with zero dirty smell.
IRCTC Executive Lounge – A perfect place for resting and having breakfast/lunch/dinner too.
The experience was amazing. I loved the idea of having such a lounge at a railway station. A great initiative by IRCTC.
Affordable prices, hygienic bathrooms, and cleanliness at par, all under one roof. It’s worth all the money.
This IRCTC Executive Lounge is a must-visit for anyone who wants to freshen up, have a bath, or have a few hours of rest.
Open 24×7. Almost 3-star – Definitely recommended. Keep the good work going. Hope the review helps.
At present, the IRCTC Executive Lounge is being operated at Agra, Jaipur, Sealdah, Madurai, and Ahmedabad other than New Delhi Railway Station Platform-1 and Platform-16.
Any bona fide Railway passenger can rest at the IRCTC Executive Lounge.
These lounges really enhanced passengers’ rail travel experience. Literally a hidden gem.
A suggestion: Passengers should open their shoes outside the entry door just like Godawari AC Waiting Hall at Nashik Road Station.
Prepaid Auto-Rickshaw Fare from New Delhi Railway Station to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station – How much I Paid?
The question: Prepaid Auto-Rickshaw Fare from New Delhi Railway Station to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station – How much I Paid?
The answer: As soon as I exited from New Delhi Railway Station (Ajmeri Gate side), I was approached by an auto rickshaw wala to hire his auto services and upon the query about the auto-rickshaw fare from New Delhi Railway Station to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the auto wala said – Rs. 200 only.
Costly, thus, I decided to hire an auto rickshaw from a prepaid booth which is just opposite the New Delhi Railway Station (Ajmeri Gate side).
Prepaid Auto-Rickshaw Fare from New Delhi Railway Station to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, I paid Rs. 165 + * Rs. 20. (Luggage charges are included in the prepaid auto-rickshaw fare)
* Rs. 20 extra is the charge to enter the auto-rickshaw till the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Otherwise, the auto-rickshaw will drop you before the barrier, and you have to walk with your luggage approx. 100 meters to reach Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
The New Delhi Railway Station to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station distance as per Google is 9.5 km.
Yes, the metro is a good option from the New Delhi metro station to Sarai Kale Khan – Nizamuddin, but there are 2 interchanges if I am correct and the Rajiv Chowk metro station is crowded during rush hours.
Note: Year 2011, during the Delhi tour, Prepaid Auto-Rickshaw Fare from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station to Main Bazaar, Paharganj (opposite New Delhi Railway Station), I had paid Rs. 93 auto fare for myself and my luggage at a prepaid booth situated just outside the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
