Turban Tying Competition

Turban Tying Competition

Bundi Utsav 2011 – we all were present at Rani ji ki Baori to welcome guests and visitors. Tying Safa is one of the ways to welcome guests. I was watching as well as learning how to tie Safa. Very colorful, well-printed, and neatly tied.

Rajasthan tour – The very first one and since Pushkar Fair 2011 there was an eagerness to know about Safa and Pagdi. How it is tied? How many types? etc. etc. – The questions.

There is some difference between Pagdi and Safa for sure. Safa is of 9 meters and the one you are watching in the image is known as Jodhpur Style safa as told by Vijay Raj Singh ji the master of the art. Upon query, he shared the knowledge.

There are 33 types of Pagdi styles in Rajasthan and 54 types of Safa styles.

54 styles- Wow said I. And how many do I know?

Maybe only one style i.e., Jodhpur style Safa. Pagdi is yet to know.

Anyways, as I tour more I am sure I will learn more. Thanks to Vijay Raj ji for enhancing my knowledge. I am sure the image will definitely help many to learn how to tie Jodhpur style Safa so that next time while participating in Turban Tying Competition they the winners.

Distance and Directions from Pushkar to Various Cities

Bus Service from Pushkar to Bundi

I had a plan to visit Bundi by bus, and the question was whether there is any bus from Pushkar or not. I question a friend at Pushkar and later went to the Ajmer Bus Depot inquiry counter to know the answer.

Yes, there is a bus (maybe only one bus service) for Bundi from Marwar Bus Stand, Pushkar at 11:30 am. Better would be to reach Ajmer because there are many buses for Bundi from the Ajmer bus depot. The first bus is at 4:45 am and the fare is Rs. 126/-.

Other than Bundi from Ajmer bus depot, there are buses for Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, Churu, Makrana, Sikar, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Gwalior, Bhopal, Ujjain, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Banswara, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Merta, Abu Road, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Haridwar, etc.

Pushkar to Bundi distance is 189 km approx.

Pushkar > Ajmer Railway Station (14 km) > Nasirabad (21 km) > National Highway 79 (5 km)

Cross NH 79 and follow State Highway 26. A board displays the direction for Kota. Bundi is before Kota.

National Highway 79 > Sarwar (37 km) > Kekri (17 km) > Sawar (27 km) > Banas River (10 km) > National Highway 12 (10 km)

State Highway 26 Ends and National Highway 12 Starts

National Highway 12 > Pech Ki Baori (15 km) > Bundi (33 km)

Instead of the journey by bus, I started the journey solo by Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark motorbike from Pushkar at 8: 10 morning hours reached Bundi at 14:00 afternoon hours i.e., almost 6 hours.

In between the journey, I stop at Kota Road, Kekri for tea just before Hindustan Repairing Works (left-hand side). Kaluram shop owner is fantastic with tea making I have to say. If you are passing through the same road route, you should stop. I had two cups of tea. And yes also a stop for petrol to fill the petrol tank full.

Regarding road conditions, SH 26 is good till Kekri. Later road widening work is in progress, especially on National Highway 12. The best about the journey was stopping at the bridge over the Banas River to watch the wide and lengthy river flowing.
