Sai Kutir (Kote Galli) – Shri Saibaba Used to Visit for Bhiksha
Shri Saibaba used to visit five houses in the village for Bhiksha (alms). Late Bayaji Appa Kote Patil house was the first one.
Shri Saibaba and Wamandada Gondkar Created ‘Lendibagh’
Wamandada Gondkar was one of his contemporary disciples who received the affection of Saibaba. Wamandada’s house was one of the five homes where Sai used to ask for Bhiksha (food) every day. Baba and Wamandada created ‘Lendibagh’ in the place of Muralidharrao Gondkar; for this, Wamandada would provide two clay pots to Baba every day. After watering the trees, Baba used to break both the clay pots.

Yewale Amruttulya & Tea Canteen – One of the famous in Shirdi
I reached Shirdi from Mumbai by bus at 2:30 pm and by 2:40 pm I was in the hotel.
After freshening up, I decided to skip the afternoon meal and had a walk around Shirdi.
Not far from the hotel, I saw Yewale Amruttulya – Pune’s famous tea brand, since 1983.
* Yewale – The surname, Amruttulya – Amrut (nectar), tulya (comparable).
The spacious shop is near Shree Chavadi.
Yewale Amruttulya is a known brand in Mumbai. Opposite Bombay Dyeing at Worli, I have visited this shop many times and had a cup of tea with friends. I was aware of the quality of the tea – which is excellent and the price – per cup was Rs. 10 only.
Immediately, I decided to have a cup of tea.
The taste of the tea was as similar to what I had in Worli. No change i.e., excellent. They maintain similar quality at all branches/franchises.
The only difference – at Worli before the lockdown, they served tea via their own cup having Yewale Amruttulya printed but here in Shirdi due to the pandemic (COVID-19), they are serving tea via plastic cups.
What I like the most about Yewale Amruttulya is the quality/taste/color of the tea and the cleanliness/hygiene around the shop. One can also watch the tea preparation as it is viewable for customers.
I had two cups of tea.
Motto (displayed): In the next ten years, to start & run successfully 2500 branches across India & around the world.
Best Wishes! You will.
The next day, walking around the Saibaba temple area, I saw Tea Canteen by Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust, Shirdi.
And the cost:
Tea – Rs. 2 only, Coffee – Rs. 3 only and Milk – Rs. 3 only. Subsidized rates. Good for the needy and even for us sometimes.
I requested coffee but was not available thus, I requested a cup of tea.
The tea taste was different from Yewale Amruttulya but had its own value i.e., quality & taste.
During four days stay, numerous times I had tea at Yewale Amruttulya (especially early morning hours) and at the Tea Canteen during evening hours.
Yewale Amruttulya opens from 5:30 am to 11 pm and the Tea Canteen is 24 hours open.
I am a tea lover (without sugar) though I am not diabetic. At home, I prepare tea myself thus, when I am on tour I wish to taste the best tea in town/city no matter if it is with sugar. Every town/city always has a famous tea point.
I suggest: if you – The devotees visiting Shirdi, visit the shop as well as canteen.
Please note: Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust, Shirdi also runs Prasadalaya – 1 km from the temple. There they provide Prasad for FREE and at a Subsidized rate. I visited thrice and had delicious Prasad.

Mumbai to Shirdi by BharatBenz Bus (A/C 26 Seater – 2+1)
Online Darshan Pass/Booking was completed for Shri Saibaba Temple, Shirdi, and also for Shri Shaneshwar Devasthan, Shanishingnapur.
Now the question:
How to reach Shirdi from Mumbai? Travel Options?
I thought of booking a night train from Mumbai to Shirdi via www.irctc.co.in, but the message displayed after login and search was: In the wake of COVID-19 and as a measure of abundant caution, booking has been suspended on this route for all trains until further advice.
Next option?
Mumbai to Shirdi via Bus
www.redbus.in (India’s largest online bus ticketing platform) is one of the best options for booking bus tickets.
I searched Mumbai to Shirdi and the results displayed MSRTC buses, Neeta tours and travels BharatBenz bus (A/C Seater – 2+2), Dolphin travel house bus (A/C Sleeper – 2+2), and many more having ticket prices somewhere between INR 300 – INR 1010 depending upon Seater, Sleeper, Safety, Amenities, Boarding, and Dropping Points, Reviews, etc.
Departure timings start from 5:30 in the morning till 11 in the night.
I thought of booking the morning MSRTC SHIVSHAHI bus because the boarding point was near to home, and I also wanted to experience travel via the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus.
Done.
Received an E-Reservation Ticket via Email from Redbus.
Total Chargeable Amount including GST – Rs. 565 only.
Approx. Boarding Point – Andheri Char Bungalow (Time: 06:15 Hrs.) and Dropping Point – Shirdi at 13:30
Total journey hours: 07h 15m.
There was also an MSRTC SHIVSHAHI bus taking much less time – 5h 10m – boarding point Mumbai Central for INR 355/.
But I was happy because the booked MSRTC SHIVSHAHI bus boarding point was near to the house and I was about to experience travel via Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus.
Then a question arises:
The boarding Point mentioned is – Andheri Char Bungalow – where exactly in Char Bungalow?
I dialed the Toll-Free Helpline number for clarity, but was disappointed because the person present at the helpline number was not aware of the exact boarding point in Char Bungalow, Andheri West.
Now, what’s next?
I tried a few more contacts mentioned on the MSRTC website. I was told – Boarding Point is near the Char Bungalow Post Office.
As per my knowledge (if I am correct), there is no post office in Char Bungalow, Andheri (West).
What to do?
I canceled the ticket with disappointment. I was not happy. The joy of travelling via the Government bus – failed.
I received an Email from Redbus mentioning a refund of Rs. 416.50 (which will be credited to the account in 5-7 bank working days).
Next, the only available option is Neeta Tours And Travels (Bharat Benz Bus A/C Seater – 2+2).
Booked a ticket for Rs. 550.
I received an eTicket via Email from Redbus mentioning tour details as follows:
Boarding Point: Andheri (E) Neeta Travels, *Western Tower Building, Next To Bisleri Compound.
*not too far from home
Departure Time: 7:00 am, Dropping Point: Neeta Annex Hotel, Shirdi at 02:45 pm.
Total journey hours: 07h 45m.
NOTE: This operator accepts mTicket; you need not carry a printout. Insure your travel (Loss of baggage up to Rs. 3,000 insurance cover & Personal accident Rs. 6,00,000 insurance cover) by adding Rs 15 per passenger – Powered by ICICI Lombard General Insurance.
Done. Received an Email / SMS from Redbus and an Email from ICICI Lombard.
Finally, on the journey date at 6:45 am, I was present next to Bisleri Compound, Western Express Highway, Andheri – East, Mumbai.
At 7:05 am bus arrived.
The bus conductor verified the name from his list. Hand sanitizers were sprinkled on both hands at the entrance of the bus door.
I entered the bus and was amazed because it was 26 Seater – 2+1 BharatBenz Bus.
I had a window seat (I selected online), not too far from the door. After 5 minutes bus started on its journey to Shirdi.
The seat/bus was comfortable & clean, air-conditioned – working though the mobile charger point was not near the seat. It was near the driver. There was no entertainment on a long journey, such as melodious music. A little boring – I have to say.
Anyway, at 8:00 am, we reached Mulund.
At 9:20 am, the bus stopped at Hotel Paramount (Pure Jain food) at Shahpur. The halt was for 20 minutes. I had tea for Rs. 25/. The best was the clean toilet of Hotel Paramount – a rarity.
At 10:50 am, we reached Igatpuri. Before Igatpuri, the drive was too picturesque as we passed through Kasara Ghat. I enjoyed it thoroughly, especially because I was having a window seat.
11:45 am at Mumbai Naka, Nashik.
Note: The shorter route from Mumbai to Shirdi is via GHOTI (after Igatpuri). There is an MSRTC bus from Parel that reaches Shirdi via Ghoti. But how much time it takes – no idea.
1:05 pm, the bus again had a halt for 20 minutes at Hotel Sai Virbhadra at Pangri village (approx. 40 km before Shirdi). I visited the bathroom which was very clean.
I had Kesar-Pista and Chocolate ice cream – both for Rs. 20 each. It was delicious and the price was also cheap, though the company – cups n cones were never heard. In short, unknown brands can be excellent too.
Anyway, the bus restarted the journey and at 2:30 pm (15 minutes before time) reached Shirdi (Ahmednagar, Maharashtra).
In-totality: The journey from Mumbai to Shirdi by BharatBenz Bus (A/C Seater – 2+1) was good, if not excellent (no music). The two stoppages at nice & clean hotels – appreciated. Road condition, especially at Kasara Ghat, is fantastic.
Mobile Phone Holder for RE Thunderbird Twinspark 350
51,000 km journey via Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark 350 without taking Google Maps support, but in recent times, I have had difficulty in reaching a particular destination. Every time at a crossroads, I have to stop the motorbike and take out my mobile from my pocket to have a look at the correct directions on Google Maps.
What to do? How to solve the issue of the correct direction without any fuss?
I decided to buy a motorbike Mobile Phone Holder.
I had talks with a friend (who is using it, purchased for Rs. 800 – waterproof without USB Charger) about the same, and he suggested – a branded Motorbike Mobile Phone Holder will cost somewhere between 700 – 1,000 rupees.
I search Google – Mobile Phone Holder Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350
And the results were amazing by amazon.in
Glito Bike Mobile Phone Holder – Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 only for Rs. 289 (M.R.P. – Rs. 699 / Save – Rs. 410).
I also search – a mobile phone holder for a motorcycle.
The results show various types of mobile holders (with/out USB Charger) for motorbikes, such as claw-grip, 360 rotation, and waterproof. And the price is between Rs. 300 – 1500.
A thought: waterproof & with a USB Charger is interesting, but I will go with Glito Bike Mobile Phone Holder – Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350.
I order on 28 December 2020. It was delivered just a few days ago with an option of – 10 Days Returnable.
Today, I opened it, and it is written: Guarantee, the smartphone will not fall off from holder – Shipped by Kunj Car Accessories, Delhi. Mobile Holder length – 185mm (maximum) and width – 95mm (maximum).
A thought about the guarantee (Made in China): only time knows the answer, though it seems to be durable. Hope I have fixed it correctly.
Correct me if I am incorrect.
I hope the mobile Phone Holder for my RE Thunderbird Twinspark 350 will last for at least one year. Let’s see. Will update.
Update
Today (29.12.2022), finally, the mobile holder life was over. And the question is:
How much was the life of the Glito Bike Mobile Holder?
1 Year and 11 months. Not bad. I am happy with the performance.
Parkar’s Biryani House – An Inspirational Journey of Akshay
I read on Facebook about Parkar’s Biryani House and Akshay Parkar’s rising, falling, and re-rising from being a 5 Star chef – earning 1,500 rupees per month as a stipend during an internship and working for one year, to working at an international cruise ship – earning 70,000 rupees per month for 7 years at abroad and then opening a roadside makeshift biryani shop (all due to pandemic/COVID-19) at Dadar, Mumbai.
(Tourism was one of the first to be hit by the pandemic (COVID-19), which made many jobless and many dead)
With the help of Google Maps, I reached the lane next to Cotton King (left-hand side) near Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar (West), Mumbai.
After walking approx. 10-15 meters inside the lane, I enquire about a shop (on the right-hand side) – Parkar’s Biryani House.
I was told – it’s a makeshift shop next to Shivam Vada Pav (25 years old) – that will open at 1 pm. I have to wait.
The current time was 12:30 noon. At least 20-25 customers are already in the queue waiting for the makeshift shop to open.
Around 12:50 pm, I saw a person placing a folding table.
I question him – is this Parkar’s Biryani House?
He said – Yes.
I enquired about Akshay Parkar and wish to meet him.
The person requested to wait for a few minutes.
At 1 pm, I saw the arrival of a female and a guy covering his head and face (due to the pandemic). They placed an aluminum pot on top of the folding table and one pot nearby. Then they started serving hot biryani to customers in a silver foil Container with a lid.
It’s a takeaway service. And the cost is displayed on a pamphlet:
Chicken Biryani Full/Half 140/70, Egg Biryani 130/65, and Veg. Biryani 120/60.
The aroma of the rice, spices, along with pieces of chicken, was making my mouth watering.
After a few minutes, another young guy with a face mask and head cover arrived and started customer service himself.
He was Akshay Parkar – a left-handed guy serving biryani to customers with a delicacy.
I remember his face – watching him in a YouTube video/s.
I waited for one hour to talk to him – I did not want to disturb him and his team during business hours.
2 pm – The time and all finished. Though there were still customers in the queue.
Akshay and his team said sorry to people in the queue and requested them to come early in the evening hours.
Now, it was time to talk to Akshay – The owner of Parkar’s Biryani House.
My name is Akshay Pravin Parkar, and I am 29 years old.
I have done 3 years of apprenticeship and one year job at TajSATS near the international airport in Mumbai.
Then, I joined an international cruise and worked there for 7 years.
I came back to India in June.
I was in the Philippines during the pandemic. The company has been giving 50% salary since the pandemic (from March onwards). And in June, the contract was ended. We were sent back to India by the company via a charter flight.
After coming back to India, I applied for jobs as a chef at 3/5 Star hotels but failed. Due to the pandemic, there was no recruitment.
I had savings during the pandemic. The company had also sent goodwill ($150). I thought I will survive for 6 months, but our financial condition deteriorated due to my parents’ illness. The money saved was spent, and I had left only with 10,000 rupees.
I am the only child and the sole breadwinner. I was somewhat depressed, unable to decide what to do next.
Then one day, my mother suggested to start from scratch once again.
She said – who knows, you will go much far than what were you in the past.
The said suggestion was motivational.
As I was good at making biryani, I thought of starting a biryani stall near my home next to my neighbor’s shop.
In the month of September, I started with 5,000 rupees, making chicken/egg/veg. biryani is almost the same as 5-star hotels and selling at a makeshift shop. I utmost try to maintain 5-star quality no matter if it is sold on the roadside stall.
Whatever I am today is because of learned cooking skills from my mother, maternal grandmother, and 3 years of apprenticeship at TajSTATS.
Earlier, the sales at the stall were very less. Pramod Acharekar, a dear friend, put up a post on a Facebook page called ‘Being Malwani’. The post went viral and nowadays the sale is good.
My day starts at 6 – 6:30 am.
I start serving biryani to customers at 1 pm and then at 7:30 in the evening till 9 pm.
Harshada and Shubham – two friends, helped me immensely in my biryani business.
We use basmati rice, and for fresh chicken – I myself go to the butcher. My wish is to open my own restaurant to sell all types of biryani such as Chicken Biryani, Egg Biryani, Vegetable Biryani, Hyderabadi Biryani, Lucknowi/Awadhi Biryani, and Afghani Biryani. I also know how to prepare Tikka Kebab.
Today, I made 10 kg of biryani in the afternoon, and within one hour it was sold though today is Saturday.
Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, I prepare 14 kg of biryani in the afternoon and 14 kg in the evening hours.
Currently, there is a takeaway only. Home delivery we have yet to start via Swiggy/Zomato – confirmation is yet to come.
We undertake all events & party orders and also prepare Mutton Biryani on order per kg.
Our Contact Numbers: 0-98693 61451 / 90826 21436
The message is: Don’t be depressed in life or during the pandemic. Keep patience. Do hard work. Believe in you and your skills. Success will happen.
Thanks, Akshay for sharing this inspirational journey and the wonderful message – said I.
I will visit again very soon to take away hot, delicious, aromatic 5-star biryani from Chef Akshay Pravin Parkar.
I hope your journey will motivate many, and people visiting Dadar will surely visit your stall to taste/have 5 Star biryani for self/family/friends. Wishing you and your team lots of love & luck for the coming 2021. May you soon have your own restaurant. Thanks again.
