Sri Yantra Tapu – Adi Shankaracharya Placed The Rock Upside-Down inside River Alaknanda
Dev – a guide, a friend, requested to stop the motorbike. We are between Kirti Nagar and Srinagar on National Highway 58. On the left-hand side is the holy river Alaknanda and in the middle of the river is a huge rock known as Sri Yantra Tapu.
It is said and believed whoever saw Sri Yantra (naturally present on the rock) in those days either became blind or died that is why Adi Shankaracharya with the help of local people placed the rock upside down inside river Alaknanda so that no one ever is able to see Sri Yantra again.
Wah – That is knowledge enhanced. Thank you very much, Dev Ji.
Shree Yantra Tapu Resort is a hotel on the right-hand side with a similar name – said Dev.
Upon google search yes, I found some similar information. Check: http://www.srinagargarhwal.com/
Thank you.
Ghet Ka Phana – Traditional Food of Uttarakhand
Whenever I drive via Devprayag, I try to visit Bagi Village to have homemade food. This time during the visit I had Ghet ka Phana, Gawar ki Phalli (vegetable) with roti.
The traditional food of Uttarakhand is always awesome but these days what to say – A tough wish.
Anyway, the cost was Rs. 100 I paid.

Pyaz (Onion) Paratha with Tea at Markanda Paradise Restaurant
During the Chandigarh to Rishikesh motorbike journey or vice versa, I try to stop at Markanda Paradise Restaurant for breakfast/lunch or snacks. Though no display board, not to worry – quick service and a budget restaurant for budget travelers.
It was 2:00 pm and I was hungry. As I had completed only half of the journey, I decided to have some light food. What better than Pyaz (onion) Paratha with achar and tea – favorite if it is HOT and then the tea will be Double.
Cost – Rs. 30 per Onion Paratha and Rs. 20 for double tea. That’s it.
Vijay Bahadur Rana though is getting old but is always quick in service. He is the only person who enhanced my knowledge about the river that flows in front of his restaurant and the name is Markanda River. Only during the rainy season a good amount of water is in the river.
So if you are passing via this route which is National Highway 72 you may stop at this location popularly known as Markanda bridge near Nahan town (visible from this location on top of the mountain) to refresh yourself. Enjoy.
