Drona Cave at Sahastradhara – Guru Dronacharya did Penance Here

Drona Cave at Sahastradhara – Guru Dronacharya did Penance Here

More than 25 natural water ponds I counted at Sahastradhara in Dehradun, but before entering the pond, we visited Drona cave to offer prayers. Guru Dronacharya did penance here. Due to which the name of this temple is known as Drona Cave Shiva Temple. Sulfur water comes out here, drinking which cures stomach and skin diseases by taking a bath.

The cave is super cool due to the water shower from the inner walls. I sat there for more than 10 minutes. It is believed that Guru Dronacharya, Guru of Kauravas and Pandavas, meditated inside the cave.

Sahastradhara, meaning if I am correct, is 1000 streams, and it is true as I can see many streams inside the cave as well as outside from the hill area. Other than Drona Cave, there are a few more caves filled with water. Interesting location, especially during the rainy season.

To reach Sahastradhara, a bus is one of the best public transport options from the Parade Ground/Lansdowne Chowk. The distance is approx. 15+ km.

Vehicle parking charges I paid – Rs. 10/-. There is a ropeway also to reach the top of the hill, but I find it costly – Rs. 150/- per person, but it might be a useful service for many to visit the top of the hill for a better view of Sahastradhara.

In short, I like the cave, and I thoroughly enjoyed entering the pond.

Lockers for valuables are available by paying Rs. 30/-.

Guchhu Paani – Robbers Used to Hide Here in Cave

Guchhu Paani – Robbers Used to Hide Here in Cave

Guchhu Paani (Robber’s Cave – 600 meters long) is one of the best natural locations to visit in Dehradun, in Uttarakhand. You have to walk inside the cave wearing slippers (available at Rs. 10/-) via knee-height flowing water till you reach a small waterfall and another, a bigger one, while crossing boulders. It is one of the finest tourist attractions in Dehradun.

Buses are available from the Parade ground/Lansdowne Chowk (9 km approx) and also from the ISBT from morning till evening hours. Bus fare Rs 10/- per person.

The best time to visit might be May/June.

Entry Timings: 6 am – 6 pm

Entry Ticket:  Rs. 25 per person.

Parking charges for two-wheelers – Rs. 10/-.

Makeshift restaurants are also there outside the cave overflowing water – another interesting aspect. A must-visit cave for sure.

Double Jumbo Black Garage Cover for RE Motorcycle having Ladakh Carrier with Hard Luggage Box

Double Jumbo Black Garage Cover for RE Motorcycle having Ladakh Carrier with Hard Luggage Box

During a recent Mumbai visit, I was in search of a Royal Enfield Thunderbird motorcycle (having a Ladakh carrier with a hard luggage box attached) cover because the earlier double jumbo cover I purchased was torn around the pillion rider seat. I don’t know why or how it happened, but maybe because the motorbike was parked for weeks in an open place under direct Sunlight, or maybe any other reason.

Anyway, I have to buy another motorcycle cover, no matter what the reason is. I prefer a full motorcycle cover instead of a handle cover, a full tank cover, and a half tank cover.

As I was in a hurry, not having time to visit Tip Top Seat Cover Works or any other shop situated at Grant Road, I contacted Sharda Motors (022-32140545) situated at Goregaon (W), as he does service for Royal Enfield motorcycles and also sell Royal Enfield accessories.

Suryakant the owner said – Yes, he is having motorcycle cover for RE.

Immediately, I visited, but the cover shown was not long enough in length (I tried it on a parked RE motorcycle), though it was custom-made and good quality-wise. Now, what to do?

The owner assured me he will arrange a bigger cover if I re-visit in a few hours. And as promised, he arranged a bigger size cover known as the Double Jumbo Garage Cover.

How much does the cost? – I inquire.

Rs. 450/- after discount.

I know if I visit Grant Road, the cover might be a little cheaper, but thanks to Suryakant, who arranged it within a few hours and saved time, or else I have to visit Grant Road – one of the best locations to purchase motorcycle accessories.

As per the image attached, you can see how beautifully the motorcycle is covered. I am satisfied. It is perfect length-wise and very lightweight (parachute material) – good during travel and will save from rain.

Chole Bhature – Famous Punjabi Dish I Had at Ambala Cantt Jn.

It was late afternoon hours, and I was on an empty stomach since morning, except for a few cups of tea and a few cups of ice cream. The fellow passenger was talking about good food at the Ambala Cantt Jn. After a few hours, when the train had a few minutes stoppage at Ambala Cantt Jn., I saw a fellow passenger walking cautiously, having both hands full with Chole Kulche.

Mouth-watering. I inquired too.

Rs. 30 per plate, but then a little far I saw Hot ‘Chole Bhature‘, and the interest was shifted. I requested one plate. Rs. 30/- The reply. Paid.

Three Bhature, one plate of Chole with onions, and green chili on top. What more I can ask for?

Delicious in taste. Stomach full. Snacks or Meals?

Whatever the answer is, yes, my stomach was full. Ambala Cantt Jn. is having a good hot, delicious ‘Chole Bhature’. Will remember it always.
