Walnut Fruit Tree – This photo was taken at Nandli Village – 18 km from Mandi Town in Himachal Pradesh.
Nandli Village is approx. 30 km before Prashar Lake situated at Mandi – Prashar Road and one of the best options for a homestay surrounded by the Himalayas.
During the visit to Prashar Lake, I opted for a Homestay at Nandli Village – 18 km from Mandi Town (Mandi-Prashar Road). Opposite the homestay after crossing Prashar khad is the plantation of Plum trees. I along with Manoj – The caretaker of the homestay and another village person reached the plantation area and had a few plums direct from the trees. Though most of the plums are plucked by the owner still a few left and we had a good time. It was too tasty. I wish little salt was available it would be heaven almost.
During the visit to Prashar Lake 48 km from Mandi Town, I preferred Homestay at Nandli village – 18 km from Mandi Town (Mandi – Prashar Road). Upon the request for Himachal Pradesh traditional food, the lady of the house served and enhanced my knowledge about a special traditional drink of the Mandi district known as ‘Jhol‘.
Jhol is always a part of the cuisine served during marriages, especially in the Mandi district. It is prepared by boiling lassi and adding Tadka/Chaunk (containing ghee, coriander seeds/leaves, green chili, and salt).
She said many preferred to drink Jhol via glass instead of the bowl.
It was very very tasty. Thanks for the preparation – said I.

I started Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark motorbike from Mohali (Punjab) at 8 am. At Mohali petrol, the tank was filled with Rs. 500 petrol (Rs. 79.42 petrol per liter).
Road condition from Mohali till Kiratpur Sahib via Rupnagar is excellent i.e., approx. 60 km. Continue driving via Swarghat till Kainchi more. Turn left for Naina Devi. The straight road goes to Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, and Manali.
Mandi is approx. 112 km from Kainchi more.
After 20 km of driving in the hills, I reached the bus stand, Naina Devi. 10:30 am the motorbike parked.
The total distance from Mohali to Naina Devi is approx. 95 km.
The total driving time from Mohali to Naina Devi is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Yes, I drive slowly.
450 approx. well-made steps to reach Naina Devi temple. If you want to skip steps and have your own/hired vehicle you may reach via the road that reaches towards the holy cave. Road repair work was going on. This is one of the easiest ways to reach the temple because you are very near to the holy cave as well as the temple and climb 450 approx. steps can be skipped too.
There is a rope way also available on the way via the road that reaches nearby the holy cave.

Because I was unaware of another way to reach the temple situated at an altitude of 1177 meters I reached via steps from the bus stand.
Prayers, Parikrama, talks with a temple employee, and towards Langar as I was hungry.

The holy cave is 70 feet long. One has to wait in a queue. Once you are allowed by temple authorities to enter the holy cave you have to sit to slide a little to reach the rock stairs. Few steps towards the basement and a walk between walls of rocks till you reach the end of the holy cave. The passage is very narrow, but a wonderful experience and one should try to visit. Though there is fear for many, do not worry lights are there as well as temple employees are present for your help if required.
Regarding accommodation numerous Dharamshala, as well as guest houses, are there nearby the temple. I inquire about a house providing homestay having basic facilities. 300 rupees – He said for a night stay.
In short Shri Naina Devi temple, is a must-visit place. Gobind Sagar Lake is visible as well as Anandpur Sahib. Buses are available for Anandpur Sahib, Chintpurni, and Bilaspur from the bus stand. I am sure during winter nature around must be amazing to watch. Maybe one day a visit during winter for sure.
