Crowd Outside Soft Drinks Shop near Golden Temple – This photo was taken near the Golden Temple in Amritsar (Punjab).
We were two. I was clicking pictures and my friend was at the soft drinks shop counter to buy two soft drinks bottles, but soon the shop shutter was down, and it was closed. Maybe it is a temporary close because of too much rush at the counter. After waiting for a few minutes finally we returned empty-handed.
Gurudwara Darshani Deori
This Gurudwara is situated in Bazar Mai Sewa. During the period of Guru ji, there was no construction between Golden Temple and Guru Bazar since old city was only around Guru Ke Mahal and Toba Bhai Saalo ji. So when Guru Sahibs (fourth, fifth and sixth guru ji) while visiting Golden Temple used to bow their heads from this historic place (presently Gurudwara Darshani Deori) upon getting the first glimpse of Golden Temple so this historic place is known as Darshani Deori.

During the Heritage Walk conducted by Davinder Singh, we reached Gurudwara Saragarhi – The only Gurudwara built by the British in Amritsar. We also saw 21 Sikh Non-Commissioned Officers’ names (who fought against 10,000 soldiers) on a memorial tablet.
Thanks to Davinder Singh for enhancing my knowledge.
Street food few times too good to resist. Amritsar is one such city having numerous street food stalls. We stop at Katra Ahluwalia Chowk opposite Dominos to have a Tikki burger prepared by the owner himself – Mr. Sanjay Kumar.
Rs. 20 – The cost of a Tikki burger is good for a budget traveler and tastes beyond imagination. Thank you, brother – said I.
It was 10 pm in the night when we reached Majitha Road to have dinner at a very famous restaurant – Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner. The shop is approx. 3 km from the Interstate Bus Terminal. Sharing auto service is available on the main road near the Interstate bus terminal for Rs. 10/- per person, but as it was late at night, no passengers were available except two of us, and not aware of the location, we booked the entire auto for Rs. 40/-.
At Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner, instead of the famous fish preparation, I requested 1/2 plate of Chicken curry for dinner with plain chapati. We were on the ground floor in a spacious hall packed with locals and various friendly groups. Only one table was empty.
The service was quick and the food without any doubt – delicious. Punjabis are excellent in chicken preparation.
Little expensive for a budget traveler, especially if I talk about myself, but if the food quality is excellent for once, it is good to visit to taste. I paid Rs. 290/- for 1/2 chicken curry and a few more rupees for plain chapati. After dinner, we walked upstairs to discover there is another hall for people visiting with family.
In short, if you are visiting with family, the upstairs hall is preferable. One of the best restaurants for chicken. Thank you very much.
After the dinner, though it was a little late night we opt for a walk to reach our hotel. Chicken was the topic during the walk.
Bade Bhai Ka Brothers Dhaba near the Town Hall in Amritsar is recommended by many for quality food. During the morning hours, we had a visit and requested them to serve what they think the best food from their menu list for breakfast.
Amritsari Kulcha King Size with butter on top and Channe was served. Hot, less spicy, and excellent in taste.
Cost – Rs. 60 /-.
After breakfast, we had Espresso Coffee (Rs. 30) especially because breakfast was heavy, almost a meal.
I too recommend Bade Bhai Ka Brothers Dhaba near the Town Hall in Amritsar (Punjab).
The shop opens from 7 am till late night hours.
During the Heritage walk morning hours conducted by Davinder Singh (a man with a white turban), we reached Jalebiwala chowk (Katra Ahluwalia) and a halt to taste famous desi ghee jalebi from a very famous shop running since 1956 from 9 am till 10 pm.
280 rupees per kilogram – The cost. But for an individual, Rs. 10 for a few jalebis served in pattal plates (leaf plates).
Crispy, hot, and sweet. Though they serve various sweet items, jalebi is the most famous one. One should visit to have a few.
Davinder Singh further enhanced our knowledge – Katra Ahluwalia chowk is the location from where for the first time people’s agitation against the Rowlatt Act started on 9th March 1919.
Great – said I. Thanks for sharing knowledge.
After one or two days I re-visited Gurdas Ram shop during the morning hours to have a few more desi ghee jalebi.
