Drona Cave at Sahastradhara

Drona Cave at Sahastradhara in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India

More than 25 natural water ponds I counted at Sahastradhara in Dehradun, but before entering the pond we visited Drona cave to offer prayers.

The cave is super cool due to water shower from the inner walls. I sat there for more than 10 minutes. It is believed Guru Dronacharya – Guru of Kauravas and Pandavas meditated inside the cave.

Sahastradhara meaning if I am correct is 1000 streams, and it is true as I can see many streams inside the cave as well as outside from the hill area. Other than Drona cave, there are a few more caves filled with water. Interesting location especially during rainy season.

To reach Sahastradhara, bus is one of the best public transport options from the Parade ground/Lansdowne chowk. The distance is approx. 15+ km.

Vehicle parking charges I paid – Rs. 10/-. There is a rope-way also to reach the top of the hill but I find it costly – Rs. 150/- per person, but it might be a useful service for many to visit the top of the hill for a better view of Sahastradhara.

In short I like the cave, and I thoroughly enjoyed entering the pond.

Lockers for valuables are available by paying Rs. 30/-.

The journey continues…
