History of Maa Vajreshwari Devi Temple:

Years ago Kalikaal – The demon was troubling people and to get rid of the demon, sages under the guidance of Rishi Vashishta performed Trichandi Yagya. As Indra – The King of devtas was not part of the Yagya he hurled Vajra (thunderbolt) which causes worries among rishis (sages) and people. They prayed Goddess to save.

To save sages and people Goddess Parvati swallowed Vajra. Thus, Lord Rama said as you have saved people and swallowed Indra Vajra you will be known as ‘Vajreshwari Devi’ and will stay in the region forever. Thus, Shree Vajreshwari Devi is also known as incarnation of Goddess Parvati.

During Peshwa era Mumbai till Daman was under Portuguese rule. As they were troubling locals, the news was heard by Shrimant Chimaji Appa and he started proceeding towards Vasai fort with the army.
