More than 25 natural water ponds I counted at Sahastradhara in Dehradun but before entering pond we visited Drona cave to offer prayers.
The cave is super cool due to water shower from inner walls. I sat there for more than 10 minutes. It is believed Guru Dronacharya – Guru of Kauravas and Pandavas meditated inside the cave.
Sahastradhara meaning if I am correct is 1000 streams and it is true as I can see many streams inside the cave as well as outside from hill area. Other than Drona cave there are few more caves filled with water. Interesting location specially during rainy season.
To reach Sahastradhara, bus is one of the best public transport option from Parade ground/Lansdowne chowk. The distance is approx. 15+ km.
Vehicle parking charges I paid – Rs. 10/-. There is rope-way also to reach top of hill but I find it costly – Rs. 150/- per person but might be useful service for many to visit top of a hill for better view of Sahastradhara. In short I like the cave and I thoroughly enjoyed entering the pond.
Lockers for valuables is available by paying Rs. 30/-.
