Chandrabadni Devi Temple – Goddess Sati Torso Fell Here

Chandrabadni Devi Temple, Jurana Village (Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, India)

Since the last one year wish was to visit Chandrabadni Devi Temple. National Highway 58 driving solo Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark motorbike covering 66 Km approx. from Rishikesh to Devprayag and hiring a jeep from Devprayag tehsil for another 33 km I reach Chandrabadni Devi situated at Jurana Village in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.

(As you can read Naikhri Village is 1831 meters above sea level. You can guess how high is the mountain where the temple is)

Jeep charges Rs. 1,000 Devprayag tehsil – Chandrabadni temple – Devprayag tehsil.

Rs. 700 I bargain.

I remember during the Lansdowne tour I visited Tarakeshwar Mahadev approx. 76 km to-and-fro and paid Rs. 800. Devprayag – Chandrabadni – Devprayag is 66 Km only. Rs. 700 is OK – said I. Driver after a few discussions was convinced but will take more passengers on the way- said he. No problem – said I and I/We reached the temple.

Traveling while someone else is driving especially in mountains is a little scary. People who travel by bus in the mountains are brave. I am comfortable when I am driving. They say I am brave because I travel alone on a motorbike. Really?

Anyways, we reach the temple area. The jeep was parked, and I requested the driver to join. Prasad was purchased. One km of steep walking while passing through Walnut/Burans/Deodar/Pine trees we at the temple. Another 100-plus steep step and a cemented path – I selected stairs. The priest was present. Offerings, Prayers, and a request to narrate The History of Chandrabadni Devi Temple, festive occasions, and more…

Can you see the crown?

Yes – said I.

Below the crown is Sri-Yantra and is worship. It is said and believed Goddess Sati‘s torso fell at this location.

Asus (September-October) and Chaitra (March-April) is the time for Mela (festival).

Kunjapuri Devi, Surkanda Devi, Rajrajeshwari Devi, Jwalpa Devi, Dhari Devi, and many more Siddh Peeth are within Uttarakhand. Chandrabadni Devi is one of them. Altogether there are 108 Siddh Peeth all over the world.

Dharamshala is available for devotees for FREE and another two rooms with 5 beds each for Rs. 50 per bed per day is available. A canteen is there for the food. No need to worry.

Temple timings: 7 mornings till 7 evenings. Only for 30 minutes closed during afternoon hours.

And I inquire how to reach if someone is not having his/her own vehicle or is unable to book a jeep.

Sharing Jeep, Bus is available from Devprayag tehsil but one has to change at few points. No direct jeep for Chandrabadni Devi temple unless and until one books the entire jeep.

Devprayag tehsil till Hindolakhal – 17 km.

Hindolakhal to Jamnikhal – 7 km.

Jamnikhal to Chandrabadni Devi temple – 7 km.

One way Rs. 55 will be the cost for Jeep and Rs. 50 for the bus to reach the temple.

Thank you said I and a walk to watch the valley. Deep, green, and beautiful.

New Tehri, Mussoorie, and Uttarkashi are close by. 55, 134, 139 km approx. from Jamnikhal.

Srinagar – 34 km, Dehradun – 114 km from Devprayag tehsil.

I wish to travel more. Wishes unlimited maybe God is listening to fulfill.

Bhairav Garhi Temple (Kirtikhal) – Protector of Garhwal Mandal

Bhairav Garhi Temple is situated at Kirtikhal approx. 18 km from Lansdowne.

Lansdowne > Gumkhal (12.5 km)

Gumkhal > Bhairav Garhi temple, Kirtikhal (5.5 km)

I stopped the motorbike at Kirtikhal during the journey to Rishikesh from Lansdowne. If you are not traveling by your own vehicle you can hire sharing jeep. And the approx. traveling cost:

Lansdowne to Gumkhal – Rs. 15

Gumkhal to Kirtikhal – Rs. 4 / 5

To reach the temple you have to climb approx. 2 km i.e., 40 mins. walk.

Upon query a local shared the history of the temple:

It is believed years ago Bhairav temple was at Hanuman Garhi (earlier known as Langur Garhi). When Gorkha attacked Garhwal, Lord Bhairav location was shifted to another hill now known as Bhairav Garhi. It is situated at approx. 9000 plus feet elevation. At Hanuman Garhi nowadays Lord Hanuman deity is present. Bhairav Garhi is a Siddh Peeth.

Hanuman Garhi and Bhairav Garhi are situated at a distance of 2 km approx.

May end or early June festival is organized by locals. And another one-month festival from 15 July – 15 August.

Bread Pakora with Pudina ki Chatni as Snacks at Juyal Tea Stall

Duggada is approx. 10 plus km from Kotdwar and 30 km from Lansdowne.

Juyal Tea Stall at Kotdwara – Lansdowne Highway, near Durga Devi Temple (Dugadda) is run by Vivek Gyani/Ashish. Bread Pakora with pudina-ki-chatni – mouth-watering I had. What I liked the most was pudina-ki-chatni – No matter how much I had, the urge to have more was there. Excellent preparation.

Agarwal Cineplex – The Only Cinema Hall in Lansdowne

Agarwal Cineplex – During Lansdowne travel when I heard about this movie hall located within Lansdowne which is itself a very small town, immediately I decided to watch a movie and the movie was F.A.L.T.U

What I like the most in the movie was the song ‘char baj gaye lekin party abhi baaki hai

And the best was we were only four or five as an audience. The entire movie hall was empty.
